Jerry Lewis and the French.The latter's appreciation for the former is almost always noted with a sneer or a laugh.
But what could be the possible reason for such a reaction to a comic who ? Is it justified? Does it all lie in some murky political posturing?

Some believe that the French people love Jerry Lewis because he makes Americans look like moronic, yapping clowns. Whenever I read a patriotic blowhard blasting French culture and dragging out the old "they love Jerry Lewis" claim, I want to tell them, "you're why."
