Matrix maestros Lana and Andy Wachowski are gearing up for their next science-fiction opus, Jupiter Ascending. The directing duo is reportedly starting to discuss with studio Warner Brothers which A-list star to approach about heading up the cast with an eye towards beginning production next spring. The storyline for the film is being kept under wraps.
Currently the Wachowskis are finishing up their portion of the multiple director/multiple storyline Cloud Atlas. Last spring they were trying to drum up support for a drama about a gay relationship between a US soldier and an Iraqi, but had trouble finding any takers.
Much like The Matrix, Jupiter Ascending is an original story from the duo and presumably is a return to the science-fiction/action genre. And while these days Hollywood seems to prefer to make films that already have some name brand recognition, it looks like Warners is gambling that the name that will sell the film is “Wachowski.” With The Matrix trilogy bringing in $1.6 billion at the box office worldwide, it seems like a pretty safe bet.
