Fox Brings In New Writer For INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequel

IndependenceDay2

Twentieth Century Fox has brought on scripter Carter Blanchard to take a pass at the screenplay for Roland Emmerich’s upcoming Independence Day sequel. Blanchard will be working from previous drafts completed by Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin and James Vanderbilt.

Blanchard is an interesting choice as he has very little in the way of produced credits, only a short film and two episodes of the 2000 series Good Vs Evil. He is however working on an adaptation of Mark Millar’s Kindergarten Heroes for the studio and producer Simon Kinberg and recently finished work on a draft of Spyhunter, the perpetually in development video game adaptation, for Ruben Fleischer to direct at Warners.

With Emerich prepping to start shooting the film as soon as he complete works on his drama about the seminal Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village that sparked the gay rights movement, Stonewall, Blanchard’s draft will probably not deviate to strongly what has already been written.

Independence Day 2, which will not feature the first film’s star Will Smith, is set for a July 1, 2016, release.
