First PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Trailer is Surprisingly Depp-less

If you are somehow unconvinced that Johnny Depp has in some ways become synonymous with Disney’s Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, take a look at the just released teaser trailer for the fifth film. No Johnny Depp in sight. No mention of the actual film’s title over the course of the nearly two minute clip. Just one mention of his character Jack Sparrow’s name and the work of the marketing team is pretty much done in creating an awareness of this new film coming next summer.

Interestingly, though, the trailer seems to be playing up some horror elements that in a lesser known or perhaps brand new franchise might influence the decision of casual theater goers as to whether or not they would plunk their hardearned cash down at the box office. But knowing that this is a Pirates Of The Caribbean film, one can rest assured that Disney is not going to let directors Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning move the film off to some weird dark place. (As much as that would be really interesting.) It will still be the same supernatural-themed action-adventure-comedy that we have come to expect from the series.

In addition to Depp, Dead Me Tell No Tales also sees the return of franchise regulars Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally and Stephen Graham and welcomes newcomers Javier Bardem, Kaya Scodelario, Brenton Thwaites and Golshifteh Farahani.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales sails into theaters on May 26th, 2017.
