Universal Adding Two More Monsters To DARK UNIVERSE Franchise

Universal has not let much in the way of details escape about their plans for their Dark Universe franchise beyond the release of its first installment, The Mummy, this weekend. Outside of the fact that their next film will be Bride Of Frankenstein in 2019, about the only other thing we know is the names of the various classic monsters they hope to bring to the big screen. And now, that list has grown by two.

In an interview at The Mummy’s opening this week, franchise spearhead Alex Kurtzman stated –

We know we’re going to do Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Invisible Man…

This was the first time that either The Phantom or the Hunchback have been mentioned in conjunction with the Dark Universe franchise, and they are both interesting choices.

For those of you somehow unfamiliar with these two classic characters, they are both tragic figures who find their love for beautiful women spurned because of physical deformities. How the studio plans to fit these characters into their franchise’s overall story arc is anyone’s guess. Pretty much like how any of these other movies are going to fit into the studio’s overall plans is anyone’s guess.
