Gore Verbinski Next Director Attached to GAMBIT

You can tell that Fox is serious about getting Gambit off the ground by the caliber of directors they are pursuing for it. Now all they have to do is keep one around long enough to make the film.

Deadline is reporting that director Gore Verbinski is in talks to direct the Channing Tatum X-Men tie-in.  He follows in the footsteps of Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt as director of the project.

Verbinski is known for his work on The Ring and the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, so he has some major successes in the past. However, his last two films–The Lone Ranger and A Cure For Wellness–bombed at the box office, which makes his involvement a mixed bag. But he does direct charming rogues in frenetic action pieces very well, and that can go a long way on this film.

No word as of yet what role Johnny Depp will be playing or what his makeup will look like. We’ll keep you posted when we find out.
