OCEAN’S 8 Tracking Towards $30 Million Opening Weekend

The con-ladies of Ocean’s 8 might be planning a $100 million plus jewelry heist, but it looks as if their premier weekend box office is currently tracking to pull somewhat less than that.

According to early industry analysts, the fourth installment in the Ocean’s franchise – and the first one without stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, et al – is looking as if it will only be earning in the vicinity of $30 million domestically.

The current $30 million projection puts the film as the lowest opener of the franchise. The three original films all opened in the $33 to $39 million dollar range. But then again, at a budget of $70 million, Ocean’s 8 is also the least expensive of the series.

Nevertheless, it is likely that studio Warner Brothers is hoping that this projection trends up as the film’s June 8 release. When it opens, the latest Star Wars juggernaut Solo: A Star Wars Story will be in its third week of release with superhero epics Deadpool 2 in its fourth week and The Avengers: Infinity War in its sixth week of release.

Ocean’s 8 stars Sandra Bullock as the sister of the previous trilogy’s George Clooney conman, assembling her own team of thieves to steal a valuable necklace from the glamorous annual Met Gala. Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway and James cordon co-star.
