Well, now you can get that same slug to help you prepare your own dinner with the Space Slug Oven Mitt.

I can’t tell you too much more specific about it except that its manufacturer states that it is totally safe to use and is made from a fire-retardant nomex cotton blend.

But come on. I don’t think a Star Wars fan has to be a foodie to want this. I’m not even one for lots of Star Wars collectibles and I want one for my kitchen!

The Space Slug Oven Mitt isn’t going to be available until sometime in August, but you can advance order yours over at the Star Wars Shop.

Geek Gear- Something so absolutely geeky you have no choice but to acquire one as quickly as possible.

Writer Harlan Ellison has been called a lot of things over the years,

Spanning over 25 years of criticisms, Harlan Ellison’s Watching collects his numerous ruminations of film into one handy volume. Starting with a review he wrote while still in high school and spanning all the way through the regular review column he wrote for The Magazine Of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Ellison focuses on his targets for praise or derision with a laser-like accuracy, wit and intelligence that makes this a must-read for anyone, even if you wind up disagreeing with what he says. From his famous eviscerations of Star Wars (“Luke Skywalker Is A Nerd And Darth Vader Sucks Runny Eggs”) and Star Trek (“Star Trek: The Motionless Picture”) to him calling Spielberg a sadist for producing Gremlins and directing Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom, no one is spared. Having worked in the belly of the Hollywood beast, Ellison approaches his critiques with an experience few other writers have and it sharply informs his work.

An earlier edition of this book has sat on my shelf for over 10 years, and on occasion I still pull it down to randomly read a section. It’s not just essential reading for anyone who writes about film but essential reading for any film lover.

So you’re being drug across history by a group of little people who turn out to be the most inept thieves in time and space. How do you find your way back home? With this trusty replica of the maps used in the Terry Gilliam’s fantasy Time Bandits.

As explained its creator, the map is recreated after studying the film in detail. In the course of the recreation, he found some inconsistencies between the props used in the film and the map featured in the closing credits. The map featured in the film only had clocks down its left side, while the credits sequence prop had clocks on both sides. The map is printed on a 40 by 24.5 inch piece of canvas and is suitable for framing.

You can get your own Time Bandits map here. Please time travel responsibly.

While I like Rob Reiner’s charming fairy tale The Princess Bride, there was appoint when I was seriously burned out on the film. Back in college, I had some friends who latched on the film, watching it repeatedly and constantly dropping lines of dialogue into conversations. As inconceivable as it sounds, things got worse once they started taking fencing lessons, wit them jumping around and pronouncing to all and sundry in a rough approximation of Mandy Patakin’s accent in the film, “My name is Indigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

Still, they are my friends and you have to put up with this sort of thing from your friends from time to time. However, it left me with a strong desire to not watch the film for a long time.

This black T-Shirt, with its clever riff on those ubiquitous “Hello, My Name Is…” sticky name tags actually makes me want to pull my wife’s DVD copy off the shelf and pop it in the player. Meanwhile, you can wear this t-shirt to fencing class or a Renaissance Faire and wave around your foil or epee without resorting to doing a bad accent.

Stuck in a neo-noir future Los Angeles with no hope of a new life on the Off World Colonies? Hunting down wayward Replicants through the dismal, continual rain? Then you’ll need yourself one of these LED Umbrellasfrom the folks at Think Geek. Available in either black or red, the umbrella runs on three AAA batteries and will light your way through the torrential downpour as you go about your business like a good background extra in Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking film.

Geek Gear is a new, semi-regular feature spotlighting cool stuff you know you want to have. It is merely a coincidence that we kick this feature off so close to the beginning of the holiday shopping season. (hint, hint…) Thanks to regular FilmBuff reader Jim A. for submitting our inaugural item.
