Godzilla’s
Attack Remembered:
A plaque commemorating the 50th anniversary of the United
States release of the classic Japanese monster film Godzilla
will be unveiled this March. The plaque will be placed at 129 North
Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles, the former site of Visual Drama, Inc.
studio where additional scenes featuring Raymond Burr were shot with
the intention of making the film more accessible to American
audiences. The Americanized version of Godzilla was released
in the U.S. on April 4, 1956.
Wong
Kar Wai Gets Jury Duty:
Chinese director Wong Kar Wai has been selected president of the
jury for the Cannes Film Festival. Wong becomes the first Chinese
jury president in the festival’s history. The Cannes Film Festival
runs May 17th to the 28th.
Guild Award Nominations Announced:
Awards season gets into full swing with the Screen Actors Guild, the
Directors Guild of America, the American Society of
Cinematographers, the Visual Effects Society, the Producers Guild of
America and the Writers Guild of America all announcing their
nominations for their various guilds’ awards. You can see the

(1989) and Training Day (2001), has passed away at age 49.
