To Boldly Auction…:
Christie’s
auction house in New York City has announced that they will be
holding a Star Trek themed auction the weekend of October
5-7, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the premier
of the original Trek television series. Going onto the auction block
will be costumes, props and other ephemera from both the original
television series and its spin-offs as well as items from the nine
cinematic installments as well. A model of the Enterprise used for
in visual effects for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
(1991) is expected to sell for between $15,000 and $25,000, while
prop phasers from 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis have been valued between
$1,200.00 to $1,800. Before the auction, selected items to be
auctioned will tour various science-fiction conventions. More
information on the prop tour and on the auction itself can be found
at Christie’s website
here.
The Derby Is Declared A Landmark:
The last
remaining Brown Derby restaurant in Los Angeles has been saved from
a real estate developer’s bulldozer. In a unanimous vote, the Los
Angeles City Council voted to grant the building Historical City
Landmark status, scuttling any plans to have the building torn down
to build a shopping complex. The building has a strong tie to film
history (previously discussed in
this installment
of the Newsreel), most recently appearing in the film Swingers
(1996).
