Who Is In AMELIA!

As long as Hollywood keeps giving him work, we are going to continue to use variations on this post title.

Variety is reporting that Christopher Eccleston, who played the 9th Doctor in the successful BBC franchise , Doctor Who, has joined the cast of the Hilary Swank vehicle, Amelia.

Eccleston is set to play Fred Noonan, navigator to Swank's Amelia Earheart. Noonan was Earheart's navigator on the 1937 flight where she went missing.

Apatow Finds Three More "FUNNY PEOPLE"

Judd Apatow's next directorial effort, in a stunning display of efficiency, has received three new actors, a title, and a start date, all in the same day.

Variety is reporting Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman and Apatow favorite Jonah Hill have signed to join Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann in Funny People, a film which takes place in the world of stand up comedy.

Bana might be a weird choice to co-star in a comedy for American audiences only familiar with his dramatic work in movies such as Hulk, Munich and The Other Boleyn Girl. But he worked as a stand up comedian in his native Australia and appeared in the Australian sketch comedy show Full Frontal.

Production on Funny People is set to begin in September.

Baruchel And Rogen Reteaming: Is It A Sign Of The APOCALYPSE? It Sure Is.

Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen, pictured to the left with Knocked Up director Judd Apatow, are set to reteam for the for the upcoming Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse.

Variety is reporting that the Mandate Pictures release, which is adapted from a comedy short film from Rogen and his Superbad writing partner Evan Goldberg, is an action comedy about two friends dealing with, well, the apocalypse. Rogen and Goldberg will be writing the full length version as well.

This marks Baruchel and Rogen's fourth project together. They first co-starred in the FOX TV series, Undeclared and then again in last year's Knocked Up. They also co-star in the perpetually upcoming Fanboys.

Who's Your BUDDY?

To most people, Buddy Cianci is the name of the junior high school in Family Guy's fictional Rhode Island town of Quahog.

To residents of the non-fictional Rhode Island, from where Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane originally hails, Buddy Cianci is a colorful and controversial (to put it mildly) politician who was twice removed from his position as mayor of Providence for various illegal shenanigans.

(Family Guy fans should also find the Providence skyline in the background of the picture of Cianci at the left to be familiar.)

Having already been the subject of a documentary that made the festival rounds last year, Cianci’s story is in the process of becoming a major motion picture, entitled appropriately enough Cianci, with Michael Corrente directing and David Mamet providing a screenplay from Michael Staton’s biography of the twice former mayor. Oliver Platt is signed to star as Cianci alongside Dermot Mulroney, Adam Goldberg, Bradley Cooper and Edward Burns. The Hollywood Reporter stated today that Robin Williams is currently in negotiations for a role, schedule permitting.

Cianci was born and grew up in the Providence suburb of Cranston, around the same time my mother did. In fact, Cianci was a teenager in the mid-1950s when my grandfather was a one-term mayor of the town. Did that have anything to do with how Cianci turned out as a politician? I certainly hope not. But it does mean that this is a project whose development I will be keeping an interested eye on.

PRINCE OF PERSIA Taking on a Definite SPIDER-MAN Feel

Variety is announcing that Alfred Molina has joined the cast of Disney's adaptation of Ubisoft's popular video game franchise, Prince of Persia. His hiring has added to the general overall Spider-Man feel.

We all know that Molina portrayed the tortured villain Otto Octavius in 2004's Spider-Man 2. But Jake Gyllenhaal, who previously signed as the lead in Prince of Persia, was set to step in for Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for that sequel if Maguire's back problems kept him from that role.

Another member of Persia's announced cast has a Spider-Man connection. Ben Kingsley was in negotiations to possibly play the Vulture in 2007's Spider-Man 3. Early versions of the script featured the winged villain, but he never made the final cut.

We might never get a Spider-Man 4, but the spirit of the franchise lives on in Prince of Persia.

Depp, Law And Farrell Finish Ledger's Appointment With DR. PARNASSUS

Director Terry Gilliam has confirmed today what had been speculated for some time now- that Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell will be stepping into the shoes of Heath Ledger to complete the late actor’s work on The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus.

According to a report from Reuters, production has resumed on the $30 million fantasy film in Vancouver. Ledger's work was captured during the production's location shooting in London late last year.

A statement merely attributed to the film’s producers seems to confirm the online speculation that the trio of actors would play various parts of Ledger’s character after he steps through a magical mirror. The statement also nixed rumors that a portion of Ledger's role would be completed using computerized digital effects technology.

Since the format of the story allows for the preservation of his entire performance, at no point will Heath's work be modified or altered through the use of digital technology. Each of the parts played by Johnny, Colin and Jude is representative of the many aspects of the character that Heath was playing.
The story also quotes Gilliam as saying that the production is continuing forward “with the blessing and support of Heath Ledger's family".

I am delighted that Heath's brilliant performance can be shared with the world. We are looking forward to finishing the movie and, through the film, with a modicum of humility, being able to touch people's hearts and souls as Heath was able to do.

Lohman Goes To HELL For Page

Last week we reported that Ellen Page had dropped out of Sam Raimi's upcoming horror thriller Drag Me To Hell because of scheduling conflicts, she didn't like the script or whatever.

Well, Raimi has found a replacement already in the form of Alison Lohman, who reports for duty when the film starts shooting on March 31. The start date is only two weks later than the film’s original beginning date when Page was attached to the film.

Page Drops Out Of Raimi's HELL

Updated!

After signing to the film just a month ago, Ellen Page has suddenly decided to drop out of writer/director Sam Raimi's upcoming horror film Drag Me To Hell. While the official word is that the Juno star wasn't happy with the latest draft of the script, co-written by Raimi and his frequent collaborator/brother Ivan, it is being speculated by Bloody Disgusting, who first reported the story, that the Academy Award nominee may just have a case of "Oscar cold feet."

The film's story revolves around a young girl who becomes the receipiant of a supernatural curse. Hmmmmm... That sounds vaguely like the major plot point of scripter Diablo Cody's upcoming Jennifer's Body. Could it be possible that Page saw some similarities and decided to do her Juno screenwriter a favor by backing out of the project?

UPDATE:
AintItCoolNews has posted a statement from Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and the film's distributor Mandate Pictures, shifting some of the blame for Page's departure to the possibility of a Screen Actors Guild strike-
We were racing to start production so that we could accommodate Ellen's schedule. But like so many other productions trying to start before the potential SAG strike date, this one needed more time and we had to push back the start of production.

Of course, "this one needed more time" could be their way of acknowledging, yet still downplaying the script is the thing that still needs work.

WOLVERINE Cast Increasing Again

Back in 1859, settlers in Australia introduced the bunny rabbit into the country's ecology. As they had no natural predators in this new environment, the rabbits quickly multiplied to point where they were in danger of throwing the whole ecosystem out of whack. Within a decade, settlers could hunt and kill up to two million rabbits a year without any noticeable impact on the rabbit population.

Something similar may need to be done to the cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Since we last reported on the latest cast announcements for the X-Men franchise prequel, Variety has come forth with two more names to add to the film’s ever-increasing cast list.

The Lord Of The Rings' Dominic Monaghan has signed on to play Barnell, yet another mysterious character from Wolverine’s past with the ability to manipulate electricity and other forms of electricity.

Also joining the cast is Daniel Henney, playing the enigmatically named Agent Zero. Zero is another product of the government-sponsored program that created Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and the previously announced Kayla Silverfox and Wraith. All of the characters have served on the superpowered covert ops group Team X, so comic fans will probably already have a good idea as to where the film’s story is heading.

WOLVERINE Cast Starts To Look Crowded

Yesterday, we told you about the addition of two comic book favorite character's to Twentieth Century Fox's X-Men franchise spin-off, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Now comes word via The Hollywood Reporter that a few more characters are going to make the jump from two-dimensional and four-color existence to live action cinema.

Blackeyed Peas frontman will.i.am will be appearing in the film as Wraith, a mutant who can turn himself translucent while Lynn Collins has been cast as Kayla Silverfox, Wolverine's lover and a member of the superpowered covert operations team Team X.

The Reporter article also confirmed Ryan Reynolds participation in the film as the mercenary Deadpool, though the role is described as a "cameo." That makes me think the character is being put in to the film merely to set up a Deadpool flick later on. You may recall that Reynolds' Blade 3 character was also touted to get a spin-off film, though that never materialized.

With the addition of these characters onto the film's roster, Wolverine is starting to look like a very crowded movie and that's disappointing. In addition to Deadpool, Wraith and Silverfox, the movie will also feature Liev Schreiber as the mutant Sabertooth (played by Tyler Mane in the first X-Men film) and Danny Huston as General Stryker, the military man behind the program that gave Wolverine his powers and who appeared in X2: X-Men United in the form of Brian Cox.

Both X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3 suffered from too many characters running around, many feeling as if they were shoehorned into the films simply to appease comic fans. The results of such fan service leaves the films muddled and in the case of Spider-Man 3, the addition of the Venom plotline severely unbalanced the film and the plots and relationships that director Sam Raimi had worked so hard to build with the previous two films. However, with the films pulling in $234 million and $336 million at the box office respectively, I find it hard to believe that Marvel will want to change this tactic anytime soon.

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE Casting Rumor Roundup: Blob, Gambit and Deadpool

Production is well underway on the X-Men franchise prequel, X-Men Origins: Wolverine under the direction of Gavin Hood, so of course tidbits of information are starting to leak out, both officially and otherwise. Today we have a trio of casting stories that may or may not hold water. Proceed with appropriate sized grains of salt.

First up is word that The Blob, the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants member not the gelatinous creature from outer space with the Steve McQueen-fixation, is making an appearance in the film. Film School Rejects has a story from a "very reliable source in the production" that a fat suit is currently being created to make an actor look like the 800 pound bad guy. No word yet as to whom may be sliding into the suit though.

This morning brings news from Superhero Hype that the mutant hero many fans have been clamoring to appear every time an X-Men film has been announced is FINALLY getting his time to shine on the silver screen. According to the site Taylor Kitsch of NBC’s Friday Night Lights is set to appear as the trenchcoated Gambit. Reportedly he has signed a three picture deal, meaning that he Fox is already looking ahead to more X-Men films, either as part of the main franchise or spinoffs like the Wolverine project.

Another popular character who might be appearing is the mercenary Deadpool. Although he has been circling the character for some time, either to appear in an X-Men film or his own standalone vehicle, Ryan Reynolds has never been officially committed to appearing as the "merc with a mouth" on screen. But now, AintItCoolNews is claiming that he has indeed been cast as Deadpool to appear in Wolverine. For those unfamiliar with the character’s background, Deadpool is a product of the same Canadian weapons program that produced Wolverine, so it seems natural that he would should up here. But will he be a main character in this film, or is his appearance only to help set up a Deadpool spinoff flick somewhere further down the line. Given Marvel’s push to cross-pollinate their movies, it seems that either or even both possibilities are likely.

Three Actors To Take Ledger's Place In DR. PARNASSUS?

Since the unexpected and untimely death of Heath Ledger, a few weeks ago, there has been much speculation as what will happen to the film he was in the middle of working on- Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus.

Group think held that the portions of Ledger's part that needed to be finished – during which he has fallen through a magic mirror into a realm that is a reflection of his own psyche – would be done so by with a different actor, the change being explained as just another aspect of the magical realm. Think of it is as a device similar to the one used in the Bob Dylan bio-pic I'm Not There, but magically motivated.

Now AintItCool News is reporting that not one, but three actors have been selected by Gilliam to complete Ledger’s work- Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.

If true, there's been no official confirmation yet, this is exciting news. Depp worked with Gilliam before, on Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and again on the aborted production The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, so it is great to see that the two could be working together again. Law and Farrell are both capable of delivering strong performances, provided that they are given material that rises above their need to coast on just their good looks.

Let’s hope this one pans out.

Who Is Destro!

Somedays, Hollywood really makes my brain hurt.

It seems that with cameras set to role on Paramount's GI Joe film this Wednesday, the production almost stalled before it began. IESB reports that David Murray, the actor cast to play the villainous arms merchant Destro, had Visa problems and wouldn't be able to get into the country in time for filming. (Was he booked on the same flight as Amy Winehouse?)

Rather than delay the production, the powers that be at Paramount Studios recast the role- picking former Doctor Who star Chris Eccleston.

Eccleston, who has appeared as Claude the invisible man during the first season of Heroes and starred in the BBC productions The Second Coming and Our Friends In The North, is a great actor, but I'm surprised to see him accepting a role in this movie. He has always seem to be fairly particular in the quality of the writing of an project he decides to work on, and from everything that has been reported about this movie, I would not have suspected him of turning up on the cast list.

Friel Gets LOST With Farrell

Anna Friel, the Zooey Deneschel look-a-like who charmed her way through this past fall's Pushing Daises series as resurectee Chuck, has been cast in Universal's upcoming Land Of The Lost big screen adaptation opposite Will Farrell.

Where the original 1970s Saturday morning live action series featured a father and his two children on a rafting expedition that took a decidedly wrong turn to a land populated by dinosaurs, the new version will feature a disgraced paleontologist, his assistant and a white water rapids tourguide being the ones transported to the titular land. Farrell will be playing the paleontologist while Friel will be playing his assistant.

Honestly, I have to say that I am only a little surprised that this movie is going forward. This certainly seems like yet another decision based on an executive's feelings of nostaligia for their own childhood combined with the hope that other parents will want to shell out their hard earned money for a chance to foist a similar feeling on to their own children rather than any sound creative decision or desire for making this movie. Is there a director who has some grand new vision for the concept? I think not.

I await with dread for the inevitable adaptation of other Sid and Marty Kroft produced kiddie fare. A Bugaloos movie can not be too far behind.

GREATEST AMERICAN HERO Flying To Big Screen

While I remember watching The Greatest American Hero back when it first aired on ABC in the early 1980s. It wasn't that I was so much a fan of the show but that it was a genre show, a rareity at the time, so we took what we could get.

Yesterday, Moviehole reported that the bumbling superhero comedy series is all set to start filming a big screen version this summer, with casting notices having gone out for the key roles in the film- the halpless Ralph Hinkley, who is gifted a superpowered suit from some passing aliens, but promptly looses the instruction book, and FBI agent Bill Maxwell, who teams up with Hinkley to fight crime.

The casting breakdown for Hinkley describes the character as-

29-39, an all-around good guy, with boyish handsome good looks, smart, decent, honorable and resilient, Ralph is a high school history teacher in Tempe, Arizona, a bachelor who hasn't yet found the right girl. Selected by a bunch of aliens as the perfect hero to champion the rights of humankind against an evil nemesis, Ralph gets a superhero suit and a rather gruff squire in the form of FBI agent Bill Maxwell - neither of which yield easily to his control. Stuck inside the suit while awaiting for a duel-to-the-death challenge from his sinister opponent, Harve Lundy, Ralph proves to be honest, upright, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent as he prepares himself to do or die, without losing his Eagle Scout-ish honor or his suit in the process. Oh, and he gets a girlfriend along the way.
While nostalgia for the original series hasn't peaked my interest for the project, its behind-the-camera crew has. Set to direct is Stephen Herek who has directed, amongst other things, the science-fiction comedy Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Herek will be teaming with Bill & Ted scripter Chris Matheson, who authored the screenplay for Greatest American Hero with Ryan Rowe (Charlie's Angels).

But is the public really clammoring for a superhero comedy, even with one with the name recognition that this film has? My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) tanked fairly badly. Epic Movie, which had a few shots at some of the more high-profile superhero franchises, did a little better at the boxoffice, but not enough to trigger similar projects. Perhaps the upcoming Superhero Movie parody will prime the pump for comedic heroics.

GI JOE Casting Updates: Duke, Hawk and Zartan

More casting news is coming out of Stephen Sommer's big screen adaptation of cartoon-based-on-a-toy-line series GI Joe.

Variety has reported that Channing Tatum has been cast in the role of Duke, the Joe team's field leader. If you're scratching your head and asking yourself, "Who is Channing Tatum?" you're probably not alone. He has appeared in the indie films A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints and Havoc, but we'll get a preview of Tatum as a soldier in the upcoming Iraqi War film Stop-Loss, which is due for release March 28.

The same Variety article also reposrts that Dennis Quaid will be filling the role of General Hawk, the Joe team's commander.

Meanwhile, IESB is reporting that Arnold Vosloo has been cast as the mercenary Zartan. This makes the fourth major villian from the 80s cartoon series to be announced as in the film. Previously Sienna Miller was announced as playing the Baroness and Byung-hun Lee will be playing the ninja Storm Shadow. Script reports have confirmed that weapons dealer Destro is also in the film, though no casting has been announced yet for the part. With so many villians, a number of members of the Joe team also being featured, it is starting to look as if Sommers is trying to pack the movie with as many fan favorites as possible, which might not be a good thing.

Paramount hopes to have the film in production next month and in theaters on August 7, 2009.

Smith Signs More PORNO Actors

Ah, those porno puns never get old when headlining a new story about Kevin Smith's upcoming Zack & Miri Make A Porno, do they? (Don't answer that.)

But in this instance, it actually works, as two of the six supporting actors recently announced for Smith's new comedy, which just started shooting this week in Pittsburgh, are actually bonefide former porn actresses- Traci Lords and Katie Morgan.

Also joining the film's cast is Craig Robinson, who has appeared in several episodes of The Office, and Ricky Mabe. The announcement, which appeared in the Hollywood Reporter, also confirmed the participation of long-time Smith collaboraters Jason Mewes and Jeff Anderson.

The film stars hot comedy guy of the moment Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as two lifelong friends who decide to make a porn film as a way to get some quick cash to shovel themselves out of debt.

SOLOMON KANE Gets A Supporting Cast

It's a good news day for fans of pulp writer Robert E. Howard. Earlier, we told you about the latest developments on the long-in-gestation Conan film. Now, we have casting news for another film based on Howard's writings, Solomon Kane.

James Purefoy has already been announced as the one bringing Howard's 17th century Puritan to life. Joining him on his quest to rid the world of evil are a cadre of strong character actors- Pete Postlethwaite, Max Von Sydow, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alice Krige, and Mackenzie Crook.

According to EmpireOnLine, acting legend Von Sydow will be playing Kane's father. Hurd-Wood will be playing a character by the name of Meredith, with Postlethwaite and Krige will play her parents. Crook, last seen in the Pirates Of The Caribbean trilogy, will be playing Father Michael.

Solomon Kane is supposed to begin production later this month. Director Michael J. Bassett is planning on making a trilogy of Kane films if the first proves popular.

Christian Bale And Johnny Depp To Become PUBLIC ENEMIES

Christian Bale and Johnny Depp will be squaring off on opposite sides of the law in the upcoming Public Enemies, writer/director Michael Mann's adaptation of Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave And The Birth Of The FBI, 1933-34, Bryan Burrough's book on the notorious gangster John Dillinger and Melvin Purvis, the FBI agent in charge of the taskforce trying to bring Dillinger to justice. According to Variety, Bale will be playing Purvis with Depp taking the Dillinger role.

Interestingly, Dillinger has not been previously depicted in a film, evem though his ultimate fate was tied to the movies. He was gunned down in front of Chicago's Biograph Theater on July 22, 1934, having just left a showing of the gangster film Manhattan Melodrama.

Production on the film is set to begin in March.

Olga Kurylenko Named New Bond Girl

Yes, we know we reported over the weekend that Gemma Arterton had been cast in the new James Bond film, currently in production in London. However, it appears that the speculation that her character would not be the main female lead in the film has been confirmed by the announcement that Ukrainian model-turned-actress Olga Kurylenko will play leading lady to Daniel Craig’s Bond.

Kurylenko’s character Camille will, according to a press release, “challenge Bond and help him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper's betrayal," referencing a major plot point from 2006’s franchise reboot Casino Royale.

Kurylenko has previously appeared in last year’s Hitman and 2006’s Paris, Je T’aime.

Returning to the cast from Casino Royale are Dame Judi Dench, as Bond’s boss M, Jeffrey Wright as Bond’s CIA agent friend Felix Leiter and Giancarlo Giannini as the possibly traitorous Mathis. French actor Mathieu Amalric joins the series as the villainous Dominic Greene, head of the terrorist organization Bond first crossed swords with in Casino Royale.

We still don’t have a title for the film which is in production under the temporary title of Bond 22.

Marlon Wayans Recruited For GI JOE

Marlon Wayans has been cast in Stephen Sommers upcoming GI Joe film, according to Variety. Wayans is set to play Ripcord, leader of the military unit.

While Wayans has starred in a series of cringe-inducing films including 2000's Dungeons & Dragons, 2004's White Chicks and 2006's Little Man, he did turn in a very fine dramatic performance in Requiem For A Dream (2000), so perhaps Sommers is hoping to mine that side of his talent.

Wayans will be joining Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Said Taghmaoui when filming starts next month. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly in negotiations for an unnamed role.

GI Joe is slated to hit theaters on August 7, 2009.

BOND 22 Updates: New Bond Girl Announced, Set Pics

With filming on the next Bond film having begun only a few days ago, there is already a small flurry of information about the film hitting online.

First off is the official announcement of Gemma Arterton being cast in the film as a character simply named "Fields." Rumors had been floating for a few weeks that she had been up for a part in the film, which will pick up shortly after where 2006’s Casino Royale left off. Although no details about her character were released, the Hollywood Reporter quotes a production company representative as saying "it's a nice-sized role." Bond fansite MI-6 has received word however that Arterton’s role is not that of the main heoine of the film.

MI-6 has also done a good job digging up paparazzi pictures from the film’s London exterior location shoot, getting good shots of both Dame Judi Dench, as Bond’s boss M and Daniel Craig as the suave secret agent James Bond.

Although filming got underway almost a month later than was originally scheduled, Bond 22 is still set for a November 7, 2008 debut.

Kevin Smith. PORNO. You. Perfect together.

Are you a fan of Kevin Smith movies? Have you ever wanted to appear in one? Well, you are in luck.

The director has announced on his blog that he is holding an open casting call for his latest film, Zach and Miri Make a Porno.

The movie, starring 40 Year-Old Virgin castmates Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks as the titular Zach and Miri, tells the tale of two platonic friends with cash flow problems who decide to enter the world of pornography to ease their money woes. During the filming, they find that their might be more than just friendship between them.

The message on the blog reads as follows:

If you wanna be an extra in “Zack and Miri Make a Porno”, here’s how to do it…
1) Take two pictures of yourself: headshot and full body shot (clad, please).
2) List your personal details: age, contact info.
3) Mail that [Expletive Deleted by FilmBuffOnline] to…

I Wanna Be in “Porno”!
Nancy Mosser Casting
attn: Katie Shenot
239 Fourth Ave
Suite 1217
Pittsburgh PA 15222

4) Wait for response.

Helps if you live near Pittsburgh, but if you’re willing to travel from other parts of the country, then you’ll definitely be considered (however, you’ve gotta spring for your own travel/hotel stay, naturally). And in case you’re thinking “I’m gonna get RICH off this mug!” lemme reality check you: the gig pays minimum wage (which breaks down to about $57.20 for 8 hours). But if you don’t care about the money and just want an experience you can tell people about for years, then send us your deets now! Hope to see you on set.

Wow. A chance to be in a Kevin Smith movie and stay in Pittsburgh? I wonder if I can convince my wife to let me go out for this.

Christian Bale In Talks To Join Next TERMINATOR Installment

In news that will make any genre film fan swoon, Christian Bale, arguably the best Batman to hit any screen, is in negotiations to take over the role of John Connor in the next Terminator movie, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

For those of you unfamiliar with the franchise, John Connor is the leader of the human resistance in the machine controlled future of the series. The character serves as the basis for all the movies, as he is the one the Terminators are sent back to kill and/or prevent from being born.

It is not known if the Governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger will return in the role of the T-101 robot, being that he is otherwise occupied with running the state of California.

Bale will play a 30-ish John Connor in the film, which is set to be directed by McG and scheduled to start shooting in Budapest in April 2008.

I was surprised that the Terminator franchise could be able to survive with out James Cameron at the helm. But here we are, with the second post-Cameron sequel in the works with an A-list actor in talks for a role and a TV series set to debut on FOX in January. It seems the series has legs.

George Takei Gets STAR TREK Cameo- NOT!!

Late this afternoon, a story quickly ripped across the internet that original Star Trek series star George Takei was set to reprise his role of Hikaru Sulu in a flash forward scene in J J Abrams' currently in production Star Trek franchise reboot. Reportedly, he would appear in a flash forward scene with original Mr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy, whose appearance in the film has already been confirmed.

Unfortunately, it wasn't true.

Oh my!

We can thank the folks over at Trek Movie Report for debunking the rumor. Rather than just repeat the story, which can be traced back to British genre magazine Starburst, the site contacted Brad Altman, Takei’s business manager and partner, who told the site "The Starburst Magazine article is erroneous, we will be as surprised as the fans if George is in Star Trek XI."

Currently, Takei is in production on the film The Red Canvas, which will be released next year.

I find myself a bit disappointed at this particular bit of rumor debunking. I've become a fan of Takei in large part due to his many appearances on Howard Stern's Sirius Satellite Radio talk show, where he has displayed an incredible sense of humor, even when the joke may be at his own expense. He has also been refreshingly candid about the less than ideal relationship he and other Trek castmembers shared with series star William Shatner. Trek Movie Report also stated that Takei is scheduled to appear on Stern's show next week, so perhaps he'll address this recent rumor. At least, he should dish some more dirt on Shatner.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: Wonder Woman And Batman Casting. . . Maybe

Well, another week has passed and we still haven't had the rumored/promised announcement of the cast of director George Miller's comic book adaptation Justice League from Warner Brothers. However, some outlets have apparently confirmed two of the casting rumors that were circulating earlier this month.

Armie Hammer is definitely the actor set to take on the role of Batman, at least according to IESB’s sources. Like many of the names that have been circulating around this project, Hammer's filmography is fairly light on substantial credits, with the actor having appeared in small supporting roles on a couple of television series and in 2006’s Flicka.

Meanwhile, Who Magazine (Australias version of People) is reporting, with AintItCool apparently confirming through its various sources, that statuesque model Megan Gale has been cast as Wonder Woman. At 32, she is older than a majority of the names that have bandied about for the cast. However, she has very little previous acting experience, only appearing in the Italian film Stregati Dalla Luna (2001) and the box office bomb Stealth (2005).
