Disney Rezzing Up TRON 3 Again

Disney may be back in the TRON business.

The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Oscar-nominated Lion director Garth Davis has been attached to a new sequel to the 1982 cult classic. Actor Jared Leto has been attached to the project since 2017. Writer Jesse Wigutow , who previously worked on drafts of Lionsgate eternally-in-development remake of The Crow, is working on the screenplay.

Created by writer-director Steven Lisberger, the first TRON film featured Jeff Bridges as a hotshot computer programmer who gets sucked into the cyberspace realm inside a computer mainframe and is forced to compete in video games that have become very deadly. While the film pushed the boundaries in early computer generated visual effects, it did rather poorly at the box office. The film gained a new audience via home video until Disney put a sequel into production in 2009. Released in 2010, TRON: Legacy saw the return of Bridges to the franchise and a box office return of $400 million against a budget of $170 million made the film a modest hit for Disney. And for a while it seemed as if Disney was eager to order up a third film, that interest waned over time until recently when Leto was attached.
