The Doom Patrol will be back for more weird adventures as HBO Max has renewed the offbeat superhero series for a third season. The renewal was announced today as part of the second installment of the DC FanDome online event.
The series focuses on a group of superpowered misfits who infrequently have to save the world while trying to get their personal lives into some semblance of order.
The third season will premier at some unspecified date next year, no doubt depending on when coronavirus considerations can allow production to restart.
In a press release, Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max, stated –
Doom Patrol came to HBO Max with an already deep and passionate fan base and has risen to the top as one of the most-watched Max Originals on the platform. The series sits well in our portfolio and we are glad to greenlight a third season to continue this distinctive style of storytelling that resonates so well with critics and fans alike.
Doom Patrol premiered in 2019 as an offering on the DC Universe streaming service which combined original programming such as Doom Patrol with preexisting television and film properties based onb DC Comics characters as well as digital comics offerings from the publisher’s eight decades of output. The second season of the show premiered simultaneously on DC Universe and HBO Max this past summer as part of what would become a migration of all original DC Universe content to HBO Max.
The third season of Doom Patrol will air exclusively on HBO.
