James Bond Gets A Ride

James Bond will once again be spying in style, with the Astin Martin company announcing today that the British secret agent, in the person of actor Daniel Craig, will be driving their top of the line model, the DBS, in the upcoming, as yet untitled, 22nd installment of the long running franchise.

In the last Bond film, 2006’s Casino Royale, a new world’s record was set when stuntman Adam Kirley rolled an Aston Martin DBS an unheard of seven times.

And while it seems odd to report on what is basically the fulfillment of a three picture, product placement deal between Aston Martin and Eon Productions, the producers of the Bond franchise, one needs to remember that the association between the Bond films and Aston Martin dates all the way back to 1964, when Sean Connery famously drove a tricked out Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger. Although Bond’s literary creator Ian Fleming had the spy drive a Bentley in the original novels, diehard fans of the film franchise expect Bond to be driving an Aston Martin, and even raised a bit of protest when Eon temporarily switched from the Aston Martin to various high end BMW models.

The next James Bond film is due in theaters in November 2008.
