Marlon Wayans Recruited For GI JOE

Marlon Wayans has been cast in Stephen Sommers upcoming GI Joe film, according to Variety. Wayans is set to play Ripcord, leader of the military unit.

While Wayans has starred in a series of cringe-inducing films including 2000’s Dungeons & Dragons, 2004’s White Chicks and 2006’s Little Man, he did turn in a very fine dramatic performance in Requiem For A Dream (2000), so perhaps Sommers is hoping to mine that side of his talent.

Wayans will be joining Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Said Taghmaoui when filming starts next month. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly in negotiations for an unnamed role.

GI Joe is slated to hit theaters on August 7, 2009.
