James Bond may have squared off against some dastardly villains in the past, but he may just meet his match tomorrow night in the form of Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters.
For the uninitiated, the Mythbusters are Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage, two special effects experts who spend each episode of their series dissecting various urban legends and old wives’ tales to see if there is any truth to them. In the past they’ve done everything from attempting to build a heat ray using numerous mirrors in the manner attributed to ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes to strapping a jet on to the top of a car to see if it would fly. The pair has attempted to prove or disprove movie-related things in the past.
This week’s episode, airing tomorrow, Wednesday, at 9 pm Eastern/Pacific, will look at some of the various gadgets and stunts seen in the James Bond movies over the years and try to see if they are able to be duplicated in the real world.
While I’m sure that there are at least a few things seen in the series that has a basis in reality, my bet is that most of the sillier stuff from the Roger Moore-era won’t be passing the test.
Special Thanks to Mythbusters fan, and my wife, Paula for alerting me to this.
