Back in February, I reported on the footage for the upcoming big screen adaptation of the classic Japanese animated cartoon series Astro Boy, and I was underwhelmed.
Unfortunately, with the release of the first full-length trailer for Astro Boy, I remain unimpressed. The construction of the trailer is rather generic, the animation uninspiring and the vocal acting surprisingly flat. There isn’t any big “moment” in the trailer that really sells the film. Sure the tunneling through the mountain bit and the butt cannons are there as winks to fans of the old series, but I really don’t see any thing that hooks a viewer unfamiliar with the property into wanting to see the film when it hits theaters October 23.
