It looks like the upcoming Machete isn’t the only fake trailer connected to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s 2006 film Grindhouse that is getting expanded to feature film length. Hobo With A Shotgun, the winner of a competition that was part of the promotion for Grindhouse, is being turned into a full-length movie with Rutger Hauer in the title role.
The film begins shooting today in Nova Scotia with the trailer’s director Jason Eisner behind the camera. There’s no other real info on the film other than the trailer’s original hobo, Dave Brunt, will appear in the film as one of the dirty cops who find themselves at the wrong end of the titular shotgun.
If you’re like me and enjoyed Grindhouse, this is pretty exciting. Even though Eisner’s prizewinning entry only appeared on prints of Grindhouse in Canada, it did get a lot of attention on line. And who knows? Perhaps if Machete and Hobo With A Shotgun are successful we may see the other Grindhouse faux-trailers Thanksgiving, Don’t and Werewolf Women Of The SS getting the full-length feature treatment as well.
