Tom Hanks has been out beating the drum hard to support his new film Larry Crowne. This morning he appeared on the BBC’s Breakfast News program where, towards the end of the interview, the reporter casually asked if there would be a fourth Toy Story film. To which Hanks replied –
I think there will be yeah. Yeah, yeah. They’re working on it now. There you go.
Well, while I can’t say for certain without seeing the interview itself, I think that Hanks is just pulling the poor presenter’s leg here. As he has been making the publicity rounds, Hanks has been a bit silly in many of appearances. If you’ve seen his appearance on Telemundo where he winds up dancing with the program’s weathergirl then you know what I’m talking about.
Granted, if someone at PIXAR came up with a great story for a fourth Toy Story feature, I’m sure that they would go ahead and develop it. But given that the last film opened just a year ago and everyone seemed adamant that it would be the last, I don’t think that anyone is seriously considering another feature. I would also hazard the guess that given the critical drubbing Cars 2 took this past weekend that the idea of doing a sequel to any PIXAR film has probably cooled somewhat.
For now, let’s leave this in the realm of “rumor only.”
