Paramount Narrows STAR TREK Director Search To 5

StarTrekCast

Paramount Pictures and producer JJ Abrams have narrowed their list of candidates to take over directorial duties on Star Trek 3 to five possible candidiates – Rupert (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) Wyatt, Morten (The Imitation Game) Tyldum, Daniel (Safe House) Espinosa, Justin (Fast & Furious franchise) Lin and Duncan (Source Code) Jones.

Deadline is reporting that execs have met with Wyatt and are “high on” getting him into the director’s chair. And while Paramount is still keeping their options open with the other four, some may have scheduling issues that may preclude them from the job. Espinosa is currently gearing up to shoot the Boston Marathon bombing drama Boston Strong, whose shooting schedule is needed to coincide with the actual race held every April. Jones is hard at work developing the World Of Warcraft videogame adaptation for Legendary.

The director’s chair for Star Trek 3 opened up when Roberto Orci left the project two weeks ago over differences of opinions with studio execs on the screenplay’s direction. In the immediate aftermath of that news, Edgar Wright was rumored to be a possible candidate for the job.
