If you were considering it a race, and I haven’t been, then Warner Brothers may have started the overall superhero franchise film race a distant second to Marvel Studios, but they are going to beat their rival to the finish line when it comes to getting a female superhero solo film into theaters.

Production on Warner’s Wonder Woman started last week and was announced by star Gal Gadot tweeting out a picture of herself as the titular Amazonian princess, wrapped in a cloak and with the Tower of London in the fog-enshrouded background. As you can see, Gadot is in period-appropriate costume of a gray wool button-up jacket and matching dress and not the standard outfit one normally associates with the character. Patty Jenkins is directing Wonder Woman, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
