It looks as if last month’s supposition that Sony has allowed a potential sequel to their 2011 English-language adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo to die in Developent Hell may have been premature.
Variety is reporting that the studio is looking to bring Fede Alvarez onto the project to direct.
For the sequel Sony is looking at adapting The Girl In The Spider’s Web, the fourth book in the Stig Larson-created mystery series. Larson died after writing thw first three of a planned ten novel series. Spider’s Web was written by David Lagercrantz. The studio purchased the rights to the book after its publication in 2015 and set Steven Knight to the ask of writing the screenplay.
According to Variety –
In the novel, Salander teamed up with journalist Mikael Blomkvist to enter a world of a ruthless underworld of spies, cybercriminals, and government operatives — some willing to kill to protect their secrets.
Last month, Dragon Tattoo star Rooney Mara stated that she had not heard any news on the potential sequel and doubted that the film would ever get made. It is uncertain if Mara or her co-star Daniel Craig will return for the new film.
