Raimi, Vaughn Added To THE FLASH Director Shortlist

The directorial shortlist for The Flash has apparently come down to three people: two directors with experience in comic book films, and on previously mentioned Oscar-winner with science-fiction experience.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Warners is looking at Sam Raimi and Matthew Vaughn to direct the adventures of theĀ Scarlet Speedster. That is, if Robert ZemeckisĀ decides he doesn’t want the job.

Zemeckis has been rumored to be in consideration for weeks, and, even though Umberto “El Mayimbe” Gonzalez might say different, he appears to be Warners first choice. So much so that if he decides to do it, the studio would be willing to wait until after he completes his next film–an as-yet untitled drama starring Steve Carell.

If Zemeckis passes, they have Vaughn and Raimi as backups. Both have experience with comic book films–Vaughn with Kick-Ass, Kingsman and X-Men: First Class and Raimi with the Spider-Man films.

Vaughn was also rumored to be looked at by Warners for the Man of Steel 2 job. So, we don’t know if they got the movie wrong in that rumor or Warners is looking at him to do both. Raimi has a number of projects in the work at Warner Brothers, including a tornado heist film and World War 3. So, if Warners goes with him, they might have to wait for him as well.

More on this as it develops.
