New Releases: June 23, 2017

There’s only one film in the new releases this week, but its a doozy!

1. Transformers: The Last Knight (Opened Wednesday, Paramount, 4,069 Theaters, 149 Minutes, Rated PG-13 for violence and intense sequences of sci-fi action, language, and some innuendo, Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer at press time: 15% Fresh [123 Reviews]: I must confess sometimes doing this feature is a chore. Sometimes it’s finding enough things to talk about in a massive amount of releases. Others, its week’s like this, where it’s one incredibly bad film I have to talk about.

And, really, what is there to talk about? They’ve been making this film for ten years. And I don’t mean the franchise, I mean the same movie. The good robots fight the bad robots. There will be explosions. An emotional connection between a human and robot will come into play. A new robot from the toy line will make its debut. A really good actor will slum in the film for a paycheck. A hidden secret from their past is revealed. Property is damaged. The film will receive horrible reviews. It will make tons of money. Repeat again in 2 to 3 years.

It got so bad that I forgot this was being released on Wednesday. That’s why you’re getting this post now. Well, at least the delay allows me to link to Rich’s eviscerating review of the film.

The new releases next week mark the return of Edgar Wright. Gru and his Minions, Will Ferrell, and a certain house in Amityville. Unfortunately, not all in the same movie.
