\"\"<\/a>Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the graphic novel classic Watchmen<\/strong> may not have set the box office on fire, but it must have impressed some of the higher ups at Warner Brothers as the director has been tapped to helm the next cinematic adaptation of their most well known comic book hero- Superman.<\/p>\n

Snyder will be working with producer Christopher Nolan and screenwriter David Goyer in hopefully reinvigorating the franchise following the less-than-hoped for reception of 2006’s Superman Returns<\/strong>. Once he wraps up his post-production work on his upcoming film Sucker Punch, Nolan will move right over onto pre-production of Superman: The Man Of Steel<\/strong> as Warners wants the picture in theaters for the holiday season of 2012.<\/p>\n

If rumors are correct, Superman will be facing off against a villain from his home planet of Krypton- General Zod.<\/p>\n

Speculation over the last few weeks had been furious as to who would land the director’s job for the film. Reportedly, the studio’s short list for the position included Darren Aronofsky, Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, and Duncan Jones.<\/p>\n

While comics fandom is somewhat divided on the subject of Snyder’s Watchmen<\/strong> adaption, I think that Snyder’s strong, stylistic brand of filmmaking is a good fit with the character. Honestly, I would normally be more concerned with Goyer on scripting duties, as I have not been overly impressed with much of his output. However, his collaboration with Nolan on Nolan’s two Batman<\/strong> films, as well as the upcoming third film, have yielded some strong results, which allays my fears in that area.<\/p>\n
