Is the comic book adaptation Green Lantern going to be one of the big films next summer? I’m hoping it is, but that may be because I’ve been a fan of the character since I was a kid. (And if you’re a comics fan and are not familiar with how writer Geoff Johns has revitalized the character for DC Comics you are missing some of the best stuff out there today.) But we’ve seen precious little of how the production is going to look on the big screen outside of some leaked designs of the various members of the interstellar police force that Earthman Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is recruited to join outside of an early look <\/a>at\u00a0Reynolds in his costume (which I’ve been informed has been slightly modified),\u00a0some photos<\/a> sneakily taken on the set during film and some early production art<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Warner Brothers have released two new pieces of production art (below, click for larger versions)\u00a0featuring the planet Oa, home of the Guardians, the beings that created and run the Green Lantern Corps. While not actual stills from the film, they showcase a great sense of alieness that is being brought to the project. There had been some, very-probably studio generated, buzz calling the movie the “Star Wars<\/strong> of superhero films.”\u00a0Normally, I would dismiss such a statement as hyperbole, but looking at the two pieces below, I think there is definitely an indication that the production is reaching for a large, epic feel. The comparison may not be so far off after all.<\/p>\n
