A spokesperson for Lucasfilm has categorically denied this week’s rumor du jour<\/em> that George Lucas was buying up the likeness rights of deceased Hollywood stars in order to digitally recreate them in new performances in an upcoming film. On The Red Carpet<\/a> was the outlet who got the word from Lucasfilm, who issued a terse, “This is a false rumor” in response to the allegation which swept acrtoss the internet over the last 24 hours or so.<\/p>\n

The story<\/a> got it’s start in a London tabloid interview with British comic and director Mel Smith, who had worked on the Lucas written and produced Radioland Murders<\/strong>. At the time when we reported on it, I commented that given its source in a London tabloid, it was best to remain skeptical given the lack of credibility that the Daily Mail<\/em> and its ilk has.<\/p>\n
