The list of seven nominees is narrowed down from an initial <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2010\/12\/13\/fifteen-make-the-oscar-visual-effects-short-list\/\" target=\"_blank\">list of 15 films<\/a> that was announced last month. From here, all eligible voting members in the Academy&#8217;s Visual Effects branch will be invited to see 15-minute presentation reels from each of these seven films and will then vote for the final five nominees which will be announced on January 25.<\/p>\n<p>The seven short-listed films are &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alice in Wonderland<\/li>\n<li>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1<\/li>\n<li>Hereafter<\/li>\n<li>Inception<\/li>\n<li>Iron Man 2<\/li>\n<li>Scott Pilgrim vs the World<\/li>\n<li>Tron: Legacy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I have to admit that I am a bit surprised to see <strong>Alice In Wonderland<\/strong> still in the mix as I thought that the film&#8217;s 3D presentation looked especially bad. Perhaps this is being based on how the visuals looked before undergoing the film&#8217;s rushed post-production 3D conversion. The other titles are all solid entries, though I would hazard a guess at this stage that <strong>Inception<\/strong>, <strong>Scott Pilgrim Vs The World<\/strong> and <strong>Tron: Legacy<\/strong> are perhaps the front runners of the competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">The second round of nominees for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects was announced by the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences last night.
