\"\"<\/a>It’s been 24 hours, so I guess it is time for more casting news for Peter Jackson’s two-film adaptation of The Hobbit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Among the news we reported yesterday<\/a> was that Christopher Lee was reportedly in talks to reprise his Lord Of The Rings<\/strong> role of the wizard Saruman. Lee confirmed that today on his own website<\/a> –<\/p>\n

Sir Christopher Lee had been in talks to reprise his role as the wizard Saruman and it now looks certain, providing that he is in good health, that he will be appearing in the movie.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While the “looks certain” part certainly gives fans cause to rejoice, the “providing that he is in good health” part may indicate that fans should temper their reaction a bit. I don’t think that Lee is hinting that he has an illness that would preclude his participation in the film. He’s 88 years old, and is probably just being realistic about the sudden turns the health of someone his age can take. As to what his character Saruman will be doing in the movie, my guess is that he will be appearing with the other wizards of the White Council including Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Radagast (Sylvester McCoy) in a sequence where they drive an evil being known as “The Necromancer,” really Lord Of The Rings’ villain Sauron hiding under a false name, out from his hiding place. Gandalf alludes to this in The Hobbit<\/em> when he explains why he frequently parted company with Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves on their own adventure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
