In the upcoming issue of Fangoria, Italian horror director Mario Bava revealed that Soavi has started work on a sequel to his classic cult film…<\/p>\n

Michele has told me that he has started to write the script for a special horror project he plans to shoot between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012: a sequel to his Gothic masterpiece Dellamorte Dellamore<\/strong>, a.k.a. Cemetery Man<\/strong>. He\u2019s going to produce it himself and wants it to really be a great, strong, shocking Italian horror movie.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the original, Rupert Evert starred as a cemetery worker who must nightly dispatch the zombies that rise from the newly buried while trying to find love. And trust me, that short description doesn’t begin to do the film justice. It’s a wild and weird ride and one that transcends its zombie genre to the point where director and cineaste Martin Scorsese declared it one of the best Italian films of the 1990s.<\/p>\n

I have to admit that my gut reaction to this is similar to the one I have for an Evil Dead<\/a> remake. Recapturing the intangible qualities that made the originals\u00a0 the classics we recognize them to be almost seems like a fool’s errand. I really like Dellamorte Dellamore<\/strong> and think it is probably one of the best zombie films made. Would I like to see a sequel? Sure, if it can stand side-by-side with the original. As of now, I remain cautiosly optimistic.<\/p>\n
