After raking in more than $360 million worldwide at the box office, it comes as no surprise that Warner Brothers has a sequel to this summer’s Steve Carell comedy Get Smart<\/strong>. No word yet as to whether the rest of the cast would return, but it seems likely that they would.<\/p>\n

The news comes buried in a story in today’s Variety<\/a><\/em> about Carell signing a new three-year first look with Warners. Carell is forming his own production company, Carousel Productions, to develop projects for the actr to both star in and to\u00a0produce for others.<\/p>\n

The article states that the Get Smart<\/strong> sequel and the first-look production deal are seperate from each other, but it would be hard not to think that the grosses for the Get Smart<\/strong> film weren’t the motivation for each. I have to admit that I waspleasantly surprised by how good the fillm turned out. True, it weighed in a bit heavier on the action side than on the comedy side, but I thought that Carell did a decent job of taking a character that was so identified and built around another performer’s persona – in this case Don Adams who originated the role of Maxwell Smart on television in the 1960s – and managed to retain most of the core elements while making it his own.<\/p>\n
