If you’ve seen the commercials pimping Walt Disney’s DVD<\/a>\"\" and Blu-Ray<\/a>\"\" release of Sleeping Beauty<\/strong> this week, you’ve probably noticed that they’re advertising the film as being fully restored to its original aspect ratio. But if you have seen the film on its 2003 DVD release, you know that that version was wide screen too. So what gives?<\/p>\n

Well, it turns out that the previous DVD release only framed the film at 2.35:1, whereas this new, 50th Anniversary release presents the film in its original Auper Technirama 70 ratio of 2.55:1. That boils down to a bit more picture information on the right and left side of the screen.<\/p>\n

Does it make a big difference in the overall composition of the film? Hard to say, as I don’t have copies of each to do a side by side comparison. However, we do have a set of eight screen shots from the new release showcasing the picture quality of the restoration work that the film underwent.
