Now, according to a story in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120727081633\/http:\/\/www.variety.com:80\/article\/VR1117994681?refCatId=13\" target=\"_blank\">Variety<\/a><\/em>, Appian Way has secured the rights to make a live action version of the 1993 animated\u00a0feature <strong>Ninja Scroll<\/strong>. Set in fuedal Japan, the\u00a0film revolves around a ninja-for-hire trying to stop an old enemy from toppling the government.<\/p>\n<p>There had been some rumors that the upcoming, Wachowski Brothers-produced <strong>Ninja Assassin<\/strong> was actually a\u00a0live action version\u00a0of <em>Ninja Scroll<\/em>, but this news puts those rumors to rest. The Wachowski&#8217;s film is being directed by James McTiegue and was written by <strong>Changeling<\/strong> scripter J. Michael Straczynski.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Tse, who recently worked with director Zack Snyder on his epic comic book adaptation <em>Watchmen<\/em> as well as an adaptation of Ray Bradbury&#8217;s seminal short story collection <em>The Illustrated Man<\/em> for Snyder to direct at Warner Brothers, has been hired to write the screenplay.
