{"id":137,"date":"2007-11-08T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-11-08T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/?p=137"},"modified":"2014-12-29T21:31:41","modified_gmt":"2014-12-30T02:31:41","slug":"star-trek-gets-a-captain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.filmbuffonline.com\/FBOLNewsreel\/wordpress\/2007\/11\/08\/star-trek-gets-a-captain\/","title":{"rendered":"STAR TREK Gets A Captain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The starship <em>Enterprise<\/em> has found her captain in the form of Bruce Greenwood, who will be playing Captain Christopher Pike in JJ Abrams\u2019 upcoming <strong>Star Trek<\/strong> prequel film.<\/p>\n<p>In already established <strong>Star Trek<\/strong> lore, Captain Pike was the commander of the <em>Enterprise<\/em> before series hero James Kirk assumed command for a five year mission of seeking out and boldly going. As Abrams\u2019 film will recount the early days of the <em>Enterprise<\/em> crew, including the first meeting of a young Kirk (Chris Pine) and Vulcan science officer Spock (<em>Heroes<\/em>\u2019 Zachary Quinto), so perhaps the Pike character may be taking on some kind of mentoring role.<\/p>\n<p>Although original series Spock actor Leonard Nimoy is going to appear in the film in a story point that so far has been shrouded in secrecy, original Kirk, William Shatner, has not been asked back.<\/p>\n<p>It is a situation Shatner has voiced his displeasure over to anyone who will listen recently. He again reiterated his sour grapes mantra on Howard Stern\u2019s Sirius Satellite radio program this morning. Shatner also used the air time to hock his latest <strong>Star Trek<\/strong> novel, <em>The Academy: Collision Course<\/em>, co-authored (though there is some debate as to exactly how much actual writing Shatner contributes) with Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens.
