Don’t get yourself too excited though. As you can see, it’s just a quartet of director’s chairs set up in front of a wall with the SHIELD logo on it. The wall might be in SHIELD’S Earth-bound headquarters or on one of their helicarriers, the flying aircraft carriers they use as mobile bases of operation.

I don’t know about you, but this is not what I really expected or wanted to see. Marvel seems to want to be saying, “Look fans! The movie is actually being made!”

But guess what Marvel? We know that. It’s been obvious that it was going to happen for some time now. Fans want to see a picture of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pine and Mark Ruffalo or some combination thereof in costume together. I realize we have a year until we see the film itself and Marvel will want to carefully parcel out the promotion for the film, but I would honestly rather have no official pictures released, rather than this disappointing one.

With location shooting happening in Cleveland and Manhattan later this summer, I’m sure we’ll be seeing the pictures that fans have been dreaming about seeing for a while.

The press release is as follows –

Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated movie “Marvel’s The Avengers,” directed by Joss Whedon (“Serenity”) from a screenplay by Whedon.
