Miramax has just signed a deal to bring a majority of their film catalog to Netflix’s online streaming services, making the films available to watch on television through gaming and other set top devices, computers, tablets and smart phones. (Though if you’re watching a movie on a smart phone, we’re going to have words…)<\/p>\n

This marks the first time that Miramax’s catalog has been made available through any type of service like this and given the quality of their catalog – 284 Academy Award nominations across 83 films with 68 wins – I certainly can’t wait to dig into it once they start showing up on Netflix.<\/p>\n

BEVERLY HILLS and SANTA MONICA, CA \u2013 May 16, 2011 \u2013 Netflix, Inc. [NASDAQ: NFLX] and Miramax today announced a multi-year agreement under whichNetflix members in the U.S. will be able to instantly watch some of the world\u2019s most loved and acclaimed motion pictures from the Miramax film library. It is the first time Miramax titles have become available through a digital subscription service.<\/p>\n

Beginning in June, Netflix members in the U.S. will be able to instantly watch several hundred Miramax movies, with dozens of titles being added on a rotating basis. The movies can be watched on multiple platforms, including TV, tablet, computer and mobile phones. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.<\/p>\n

“Netflix is thrilled to enter into this deal with the new team at Miramax,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “Existing relationships with management and a shared affinity for these great films make this an important deal for both companies and for our members, who will enjoy instantly watching movies from one of the truly great film libraries for many years to come.”<\/p>\n

Through this partnership, the Netflix library gains a variety of films which collectively have 284 Academy Award nominations, across 83 films, with 68 wins, including the Best Picture winners \u201cThe English Patient\u201d and\u201cShakespeare in Love,” and iconic titles such as \u201cBad Santa,\u201d\u201cChasing Amy,\u201d\u201cCinema Paradiso,\u201d\u201cClerks,\u201d \u201cCold Mountain,\u201d\u201cFrom Dusk Till Dawn,\u201d\u201cGood Will Hunting,\u201d\u201cKill Bill\u201d Volumes I and II, \u201cMuriel\u2019s Wedding,\u201d\u201cThe Piano,\u201d\u201cPulp Fiction,\u201d\u201cReindeer Games\u201dand many of the \u201cHalloween,\u201d\u201cScary Movie,\u201d\u201cScream\u201d and \u201cSpy Kids\u201d movies will be available over time.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
