MGM and Screen Gems have announced that the two studios are co-producing a new adaptation of Stephen King&#8217;s novel <em>Carrie<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The studios announced late yesterday that they have hired Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to draft a screenplay from King&#8217;s classic story of a high school girl whose newly developed telekinetic powers are unleashed on her bullying classmates during the senior prom. The book, King&#8217;s first, was an instant best-seller and launched the writer&#8217;s career into the stratosphere.<\/p>\n<p>The 1976 film adaption of the book was equally successful, being one of the biggest box office hits of that year. (Let&#8217;s just all agree to not talk about the original to film sequel <strong>Carrie 2: The Rage<\/strong> (1999) and the Broadway musical adaptation, OK?)<\/p>\n<p>Aguirre-Sacasa is a great choice for this assignment. Not only is he a produced playwright but he has been scripting Marvel Comics&#8217; adaptation of King&#8217;s novel <em>The Stand<\/em>.
