In 1980, Mad Magazine<\/em> was roped into participating in a teen comedy called Up The Academy<\/strong>. The producers hoped to us the humor magazine’s cache as a way to garner attention to their film by creating a sonnection similar to the successful association between National Lampoon<\/em> and Animal House<\/strong>. However, the film turned out to be not what was hoped for and Mad<\/em> gave it a two page evisceration in their own magazine, ultimately concluding that it was pointless to satirize a satire.<\/p>\n

David Murphy never read that issue of Mad<\/em>. Or if he did, he never took its lesson to heart. According to the Hollywood Reporter<\/em>, Murphy is currently in production of Not Another Not Another Movie<\/strong>, a spoof of spoof films starring Chevy Chase, Burt Reynolds, Vinnie Jones and Michael Madsen. The Reporter<\/em> describes the plot thusly-<\/p>\n

Chase plays a studio head who quits his floundering company, leaving his ex-con sibling (Madsen) in charge. Soon their equally inept gangster friend (Jones) takes over and assigns a production assistant (David Leo Schultz) to direct a spoof of spoof movies. Reynolds plays an actor playing the director of the chaotic film within the film. Writer-director David Murphy’s “Movie” features cameos from actors playing themselves spoofing their memorable roles, including Richard Tyson (the villain in Kindergarten Cop<\/strong>) and Wolfgang Bodison (the young African-American Marine on trial in A Few Good Men<\/strong>). Ellie Gerber, Tim Piper, Jennifer Sciole and James Duval also star.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This makes my head hurt in ways that I didn’t think it could hurt before.Let me see if I have this straight- The movie is a spoof about people making a spoof of spoof movies? Hollywood studio executives have often been accused of having their head up their asses, but this time they’re so far up their that they are in danger of collapsing in on themselves and blinking out of existence all together. (We should be so lucky.) Sure, the recent spate of genre-spoofs (Date Movie<\/strong>, Disaster Movie<\/strong> and their ilk) should be mocked, but only in the finger-pointing, laugh at in derision way that playground bullies do to their classmates who actually manage to pass the third grade on their first attempt.<\/p>\n

There is no date set for the film’s release, but I’m not really waiting on pins and needles for this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
