\"\"<\/a>One of the comic book films that Marvel Studios had been working on for the last couple of years has been an adaption of the series The Runaways<\/em>, which centers on a group of five Los Angeles teenagers who discover that their superpowers are the result of being the children of supervillains who call themselves the Cabal. And though Marvel had been working with writer Drew Pearce and director Peter Sollet (Nick and Norah\u2019s Infinite Playlist<\/strong>) there has been very little movement on the project in recent months.<\/p>\n

This past weekend at a screenwriting panel during Empire\u2019s Big Screen fest in London, Pearce confirmed that Runaways<\/strong> is on hold at least until Marvel gets finished with the other big team movie that is occupying its attention right now.<\/p>\n

Basically, The Avengers<\/strong> came along and everything else at Marvel got put on hold for a year. But the script is there, we\u2019re good go. It\u2019s kind of like [being] at the airport when you\u2019re waiting for your slot to take off with Marvel, and we\u2019re hoping we get a slot next year. Fingers crossed. They\u2019re very happy with it, so hopefully it happens.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now we know that Marvel has two dates blocked off<\/a> for releases in 2014, although they have yet to announce what those films will be. It is very possible that The Runaways could be under consideration for one of those two slots. Then again, the studio also has Ant-Man<\/strong><\/a>, Dr. Strange<\/strong><\/a> and Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/strong> also in development so anything could happen.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Pearce is staying active in the Marvel cinematic universe by helping director Shane Black co-script the upcoming Iron Man 3<\/strong> which will be out in the summer of 2013.<\/p>\n
