Many film festivals have screened \u201cmystery films,\u201d surprise features that go unadvertised with the audience in the dark as to what they are seeing until it starts to unfold on the screen. Sometimes these are finished features that are months away from their release date but studios are looking to drum up some advanced buzz while other times they are nearly finished and the filmmakers are looking for a bit of audience feedback for some last minute tweeks.<\/p>\n

This Monday at the New York Film Festival, a mystery, work-in-progress film by a \u201clegendary\u201d filmmaker will screen. Given that this is the New York Film Festival, the probability that this is an Academy Award contender that is in the final weeks of before its release is pretty high.<\/p>\n
