\"\"<\/a>Johnny Depp may be playing the creator of the Cat In The Hat and other beloved children\u2019s literary characters in a biopic being developed by his production company and Universal Pictures. A script is being developed for the project by Keith Bunin of HBO\u2019s In Treatment<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This wouldn\u2019t be the first time that Depp has played a writer, having first played Hunter S Thompson in both Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas<\/strong> and just recently in The Rum Diary<\/strong> as well as Peter Pan creator J. M. Barrie in 2004\u2018s Finding Neverland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Born Theodor Geisel in 1904, the man who become known under the nom de plume<\/em> of Dr Seuss started his career doing illustrations for advertising as well as political cartoons. During World War Two his political cartoons started to lean hard to left and often attacked those he thought criticized President Roosevelt and the war effort. In 1943, he joined the military and served as a commander of the Animation Dept of the First Motion Picture Unit of the United States Army Air Forces. There, he wrote films included Your Job in Germany<\/strong>, a 1945 propaganda film about peace in Europe after World War II, Our Job in Japan<\/strong>, and the Private Snafu<\/strong> series of adult army training films. It was in the 1950s when his career as a children\u2019s author took off.<\/p>\n

I have to say that over the last decade or so, there has been an interesting surge in Geisel\u2019s work being adapted by Hollywood. While the live action produced How The Grinch Stole Christmas<\/strong> (2000) and The Cat In The Hat<\/strong> (2003) fared poorly with critics they still made some money at the box office. Better received in both categories was the animated Horton Hears A Who<\/strong> (2008). An animated version of Geisel\u2019s The Lorax<\/em> is set for release in March.<\/p>\n
