\"\"<\/a>Director Robert Rodriguez’s\u00a0 character Machete, perfectly embodied by actor Danny Trejo, is returning to the big screen. Rodriguez has found financing for a sequel to his 2010 exploitation homage Machete and it is possible that filming could start on the project as early as April.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a> is reporting that the director has secured the money needed for the project through producer Alexander Rodnyansky and that worldwide distribution rights will be shopped around the European Film Market in Berlin.<\/p>\n

When Rodriguez and co-director Ethan Maniquis\u2019s grindhouse throwback <\/strong>ended, I was pretty sure that its promise of back-to-back sequels \u2013 Machete Kills<\/strong> and Machete Kills Again<\/strong> \u2013 were tongue-in-cheek nods to exploitation sequels like Shaft\u2019s Big Score<\/strong> . But in December of 2010 star Trejo stated<\/a> that Rodriguez already had a screenplay in place. And then last last summer’s San Diego Comic Con, Rodriguez himself said<\/a> that he had a budget for the film set and that the script was being revised to fit that. It appears that all the pieces are now in place for the project to get in front of the cameras.<\/p>\n

It is being reported that Trejo is already in talks to come back for a second round as the knife throwing, vengeance-seeking former Mexican Federale, and that many of the characters who managed to live through the first film will also be back. Deadline’s report summarizes the sequel thusly-<\/p>\n

The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.’m excited at the prospect of<\/p>\n

Sounds like more crazy fun to me, and as someone who enjoyed the hell out of Machete, I’m excited at the prospect of seeing what new mayhem Rodriguez and Trejo can bring to the screen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
