Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax (Universal, 3,728 Theaters, 86 Minutes, Rated PG): So, it’s the second installment of Dr. Seuss: Stage Two, the shift from casting manic comedic actors in live-action versions of Theodor Geisel’s classic stories to CGI animation.

This follows in the footsteps of 2008’s CGI Horton Hears a Who! and well, since that one worked so well, why not try it again.

The Lorax book is big in our household, and this might be a first weekend type of movie for us. However, this version of the tale seems to be on a separate continent away from the original tale. The first version was a rather grim ecological parable. This one adds romance and over-the-top humor, two things that would not be a good mix with the original story. I wonder if any of the original made it through to the film version.

2. Project X (Warner Brothers, 3,055 Theaters, 88 Minutes, Rated R): Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the world’s first “found footage” teenage sex comedy. Can’t wait for the first “found footage” western. Or maybe the first “found footage” documentary.

This film is based on a true story out of Australia from a year or two back about a teen who announced a house party through social media and it blew up into a cause celebre that got worldwide attention.

I point this out because otherwise the plot would appear to be unbelievable at best. Parents that out to lunch really do exist in this world.

Does the Lorax still speak for the trees?

[click for more]

[84
3212,4879,4881,4880,287,175

0":"post-19062","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-news","8":"tag-dr-seuss","9":"tag-dr-seuss-the-lorax","10":"tag-project-x","11":"tag-theodor-geisel","12":"tag-universal","13":"tag-warner-brothers
[2,4
["GET
