The original version was lined up to be directed by McG, which probably explains why the budget had traveled into nine-digit territory.<\/p>\n<p>This new version is set to be co-produced with Michael Bay\u2019s Platinum Dunes shingle, which is known for producing lower-budgeted horror fare that turns a profit and Blumhouse Productions, the company owned by Jason Blum, the producer of the low-budget\/high-box office <strong>Paranormal Activity<\/strong> franchise.<\/p>\n<p>This is a smart move on Universal\u2019s part as low-budget horror films seem to be one of the few sure bets in Hollywood right now.
