\"greenlantern\"<\/a>Green Lantern could be the next superhero making its way to the big screen from Warner Brothers.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s according to Alan Horn, Warner Brothers Studio honcho, when questioned by Collider as to the status of the various comic book adaptations that the studio has been developing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Green Lantern<\/strong> is probably the best guess but I can\u2019t promise it at this moment,\u201d Horn stated, adding that the film is \u201cOn the runway. Hasn\u2019t taken off yet, but we\u2019re close.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Green Lantern<\/strong> might not be ready for take off, it certainly looks as if the film is revving up its engines. Australia\u2019s Sydney Morning Herald<\/em><\/a> is reporting that”filmmakers have been scouting locations and interviewing key crew in Sydney for a movie with an estimated budget of more than $150 million.” Apparently, Sydney Australia\u2019s NSW Fox Studios complex is currently vying with studios in Victoria, British Columbia for the project. I would imagine that once that decision is made, the project will go into high gear.<\/p>\n

Currently Greg Berlanti is attached to direct the story of fearless test pilot Hal Jordan who gets picked to join the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. As a Green Lantern, Jordan is given a ring which emits an energy that he can shape into virtually anything through the sheer force of his will power.<\/p>\n

Despite having access to some of the most well known superhero characters on the planet through their corporate sibling DC Comics, Warner Brothers Studio has not been able to really leverage those characters into successful movie franchises.<\/p>\n

True, the Batman movie The Dark Knight<\/strong> is following up its record breaking theatrical run by breaking all sorts of new records for Blu-Ray disc sales. But The Dark Knight<\/strong> is really the studios only success at this point and director Christopher Nolan is still trying to come up with a story he feels will top this last film. As for other franchises, Warners is still mulling over what to do with Superman after Bryan Singer\u2019s Superman Returns<\/strong> did not perform to expectations. Of their other projects, the Justice League<\/strong> movie is pretty much dead while the Wonder Woman<\/strong>, Green Arrow<\/strong>\/Supermax<\/strong> and Shazam<\/strong>\/Captain Marvel<\/strong> screenplays all seem to be mired in development.<\/p>\n
