\"\"<\/a>Marvel Studios’ Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/strong> is getting a rewrite. The studio has hired Chris McCoy to take a pass through the script about a series of intergalactic heroes<\/a> that they hope to have in theaters by August 2014.<\/p>\n

It is not surprise that the screenplay is going through a rewrite. All of Marvel’s films, with the exception of Iron Man 2<\/strong>, have passed through at least two separate writers’ hands before filming started. What is surprising is that, much like Nicole Perlman<\/a>, who wrote the project’s initial draft, McCoy has no actual produced scripts to his credit. He does have three scripts that have made the Black List over the years – Get Back<\/strong> in 2007, Good Looking<\/strong> in 2009 and Good Kids<\/strong> in 2011 – all of which have been noted to have a quirky, comic sensibility.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studio chief Kevin Feige announced Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/strong> a few weeks back at San Diego Comic Con as part of the studio’s “Phase Two” of their interconnected superhero franchises. Since the Guardians often fought against the cosmic villain Thanos in the comics, the film is being viewed by many as a vital installment in Marvel’s plans as it could be used to set Thanos up as the villain for their Avengers<\/strong> sequel. Thanos was teased<\/a> at the end of the first Avengers<\/strong> film as the hidden mastermind behind that film’s alien invasion.<\/p>\n
