He was 89.<\/p>\n<p>An amateur boxer who served as an infantry man during World War Two, Elliot had the perfect background to play Mickey Spillane\u2019s tough guy private eye Mike Hammer in 1953\u2019s <strong>I, The Jury<\/strong>. The film was shot in 3D by <strong>Creature From The Black Lagoon<\/strong> director Harry Essex and released at the height of the 1950s 3D craze. The film was based on Spillane\u2019s 1947 novel where the character debuted.<\/p>\n<p>Elliot also appeared in such films as <strong>Good Morning Miss Dove<\/strong> (1955), Sam Fuller\u2019s <strong>House of Bamboo<\/strong> (1955), Nicholas Ray\u2019s <strong>The True Story Of Jesse James<\/strong> (1957), <strong>Pork Chop Hill<\/strong> (1959) <strong>PT 109<\/strong> (1963), <strong>Brainstorm<\/strong> (1965) and <strong>Blood Bath<\/strong> (1966).
