This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the release of Dr. No<\/strong>, the launch of the James Bond franchise. MGM has plans to celebrate this milestone and it appears as if a 3D rerelease of the film that started it all may be part of those plans.<\/p>\n

Bleeding Cool<\/a> put the pieces together on this, noting that there is a Taiwan blu-ray<\/a> release if the film scheduled that is showing as having a 3D version included a 3D version of the film. Additionally, they point to a listing on Moviefone<\/a> for a 3D rerelease of Dr. No<\/strong>, though no there is no date scheduled yet. Seems pretty solid to me, though there are still many unanswered questions, the biggest of which is how wide a release this will be. I can see this either being anywhere between a one-night, one-off event to a limited one or two week engagement.<\/p>\n

Honestly, as much a fan as I am of the Bond films, I have to wonder what can be added from converting Dr. No<\/strong> into 3D. Then I remember Ursula Andress. But this is an interesting turn of events as it has seemed that with the most recent rise of the wave of interest in 3D the Bond franchise producers had not shown any interested in the format for Skyfall<\/strong>. But what the producers have done is shown a tendency to release information in their own good time, so I am sure we will get more details eventually.<\/p>\n
