Marvel Studios’ has announced that production on Captain America: The Winter Soldier <\/strong>has started today in Los Angeles. Further shooting will take place in Cleveland, Ohio (Perhaps doubling for Manhattan they way it did for parts of The Avengers<\/strong>?) and Washington DC. <\/p>\n

To note the start of filming, Marvel has released the first production photo from the project – a simple behind-the-scenes shot showing Chris Evans as Steve Rogers\/Captain America at some SHIELD office\/installation\/helicarrier. Following in the footsteps of the record-breaking Marvel Studios\u2019 release, \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d production on the highly anticipated release, Marvel\u2019s \u201cCaptain America: The Winter Soldier\u201d has commenced in Los Angeles, Calif., with production also including locations in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington D.C. Directing the film is the team of Anthony and Joe Russo (\u201cWelcome to Collinwood\u201d) from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus (\u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger\u201d) & Stephen McFeely (\u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger\u201d). Marvel\u2019s \u201cCaptain America: The Winter Soldier\u201d returns Chris Evans (\u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger,\u201d \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers\u201d) as the iconic Super Hero character Steve Rogers\/Captain America, along with Scarlett Johansson (\u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d \u201cIron Man 2\u201d) as Black Widow and Samuel L. Jackson (\u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d \u201cIron Man 2\u201d) as Nick Fury. In addition, film icon Robert Redford has joined the all-star cast as Agent Alexander Pierce, a senior leader within the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. \u201cCaptain America: The Winter Soldier\u201d is set for release in the U.S. on April 4, 2014.<\/p>\n

\u201cCaptain America: The Winter Soldier\u201d will pick-up where \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers\u201d left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941, Marvel\u2019s \u201cCaptain America: The Winter Soldier\u201d features an outstanding supporting cast that includes Sebastian Stan (\u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger,\u201d \u201cBlack Swan\u201d) as Bucky Barnes\/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie (\u201cThe Hurt Locker,\u201d \u201cMillion Dollar Baby\u201d) as Sam Wilson\/Falcon, Cobie Smulders (\u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d \u201cHow I Met Your Mother\u201d) as Agent Maria Hill, Frank Grillo (\u201cZero Dark Thirty\u201d) as Brock Rumlow and Georges St-Pierre (\u201cDeath Warrior\u201d) as Georges Batroc. Rounding out the talented cast are Hayley Atwell (\u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger\u201d) as Peggy Carter, Toby Jones (\u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger,\u201d \u201cThe Hunger Games\u201d) as Arnim Zola, Emily VanCamp (\u201cThe Ring 2,\u201d \u201cRevenge\u201d) as Agent 13 and Maximiliano Hern\u00e1ndez (\u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d \u201cThor\u201d) as Agent Jasper Sitwell.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios\u2019 President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D\u2019Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch (\u201cElysium,\u201d \u201cDistrict 9\u201d), production designer Peter Wenham (\u201c21 Jump Street,\u201d \u201cFast Five\u201d), editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. (\u201cStar Wars: Episode 7,\u201d \u201cThe Perks of Being a Wallflower\u201d) and three time Oscar\u00ae-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky (\u201cThe Hunger Games,\u201d \u201cHarry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone\u201d).<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios\u2019 upcoming release schedule includes \u201cIron Man 3\u201d on May 3, 2013, and \u201cThor: The Dark World\u201d on November 8, 2013. The studio most recently produced the critically acclaimed \u201cMarvel\u2019s The Avengers,\u201d which set the all-time, domestic 3-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film, which shattered both domestic and international box office records, is Disney\u2019s highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marks the studio\u2019s fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.<\/p>\n

In the summer of 2011, Marvel successfully launched two new franchises with \u201cThor,\u201d starring Chris Hemsworth, and \u201cCaptain America: The First Avenger,\u201d starring Chris Evans. Both films opened #1 at the box office and have grossed over $800 million worldwide combined. In 2010 \u201cIron Man 2,\u201d starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury took the #1 spot in its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million.<\/p>\n

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies \u201cIron Man\u201d and \u201cThe Incredible Hulk.\u201d \u201cIron Man,\u201d in which Robert Downey Jr. originally dons the Super Hero\u2019s powerful armor and stars alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Shaun Toub and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008, and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend.
