For the last couple of years, Alex Proyas was laboring desperately to get an adaptation of John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost into production, only to have it cancelled due to the high cost it would take to translate the story of the fall of Lucifer and the battle between angels and demons that followed. But Proyas has not given up his dream of telling a story about gods and men, and is now in the process of prepping the fantasy Gods Of Egypt and as part of that preparation has cast Game Of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau to headline the film.<\/p>\n

The Wrap<\/a> is reporting that Coster-Waldau is in talks to play “Horus, the god of the sky, who teams up with a human thief and Hathor, the goddess of love, on a magical quest to avenge the death of his father, Osiris.” Screenwriters Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama are the ones behind the script. The pair have also authored the new adaptation of Dracula<\/em> that Luke Evans is set to star in.<\/p>\n

I have to admit that I am glad to see Proyas bouncing back so quickly from the shut down of Paradise Lost<\/strong> last fall<\/a>. It has been too long since his last film, 2009’s Knowing<\/strong>, and even longer since his last really good film, 1998’s Dark City<\/strong>. Dark City<\/strong> and The Crow<\/strong> both showed that Proyas has a great eye for fantastic cinema when left undisturbed by studio meddling (i.e., what happened to his abominable I, Robot<\/strong>) and I can’t wait to see what he will be delivering with this project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
